Musebox Browser Extension Guide

The Musebox browser extension brings your entire prompt library directly into your workflow. Whether you are using ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any other AI tool, your prompts are just a keystroke away—complete with variable filling and one-click insertion.

Getting Started

Accessing the Extension

The extension lives in a sliding "Shelf" that stays out of your way until you need it. You can open it on any webpage using two methods:

• Keyboard Shortcut: Press Cmd+Shift+M (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+M (Windows)
• Icon: Click the Musebox logo in your browser's extension toolbar

Authentication

When you first open the shelf, you will be asked to log in. You can sign in using:

• Email & Password: Your standard Musebox credentials
• Google: One-click sign-in with your Google account

Once logged in, your personal prompt library will automatically sync and be ready for use.

The Shelf Interface

The Shelf is designed for speed. It slides in from the right side of your screen, allowing you to browse your prompts without leaving your current tab.

Browsing Prompts

Your prompts are displayed in a scrollable list, showing:

• Title & Category: Quickly identify the prompt's purpose
• Tags: Colored labels for easy categorization
• Stats: View usage counts, likes, and privacy status

Search & Filter

Use the search bar at the top to instantly find prompts by:

• Title
• Description
• Tags
• Category

Creating Prompts

You can add new prompts directly from the extension:

1. Click the + New Prompt button
2. Enter your title, content, and variables
3. Select a category and tags
4. Save it to your library immediately

New prompts created in the extension automatically sync to your Musebox account and are available on the web and other devices.

Using Prompts

When you click on a prompt card, you enter the Detail View. This is where the magic happens.

Dynamic Variables

If your prompt contains variables (e.g., {{topic}} or {{tone}}), Musebox automatically generates a form for you.

• Text Inputs: Type in your specific values
• Dropdowns: Select from your predefined options
• Real-time Preview: Watch as your prompt text updates instantly with your inputs

"Magic Paste" Integration

Musebox automatically detects if you are on a supported AI platform.

• If detected: The primary button will say "Paste to [Platform]" (e.g., "Paste to ChatGPT"). Clicking this will automatically insert your fully formatted prompt into the AI's chat box
• If not detected: The button will say "Open a supported AI site" to guide you

Copy to Clipboard

For unsupported sites or other uses (like email or docs), simply click the Copy button. This copies the final prompt—with all your variables filled in—to your clipboard.

Musebox offers "Magic Paste" integration for the following platforms:

Installation

Chrome & Edge

1. Visit the Chrome Web Store
2. Click Add to Chrome (or Add to Edge)
3. Confirm the installation
4. The Musebox icon will appear in your extensions toolbar

Firefox

1. Visit Firefox Add-ons
2. Search for "Musebox"
3. Click Add to Firefox
4. Confirm the installation
5. The Musebox icon will appear in your toolbar

Tips & Tricks

Keyboard Navigation

• Open Shelf: Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+M
• Close Shelf: Press Esc or click outside the shelf
• Search: Start typing when the shelf is open to focus the search bar

Workflow Optimization

1. Create prompt templates with variables for common tasks
2. Use descriptive tags to organize prompts by project or client
3. Pin frequently used prompts to keep them at the top of your list
4. Create prompts on-the-fly while working and refine them later on the web

Multi-Platform Usage

Your prompt library syncs across all platforms:

• Create prompts on the web, use them in the extension
• Create prompts in the extension, manage them on the web
• All edits sync in real-time across devices

Troubleshooting

Shelf Won't Open

• Ensure the extension is installed and enabled
• Try clicking the extension icon instead of using the keyboard shortcut
• Refresh the page and try again
• Check that you're not on a restricted page (some browser pages block extensions)

Magic Paste Not Working

• Verify you're on a supported platform
• Make sure the AI chat interface has fully loaded
• Try refreshing the page
• Use the Copy button as a fallback

Prompts Not Syncing

• Check your internet connection
• Sign out and sign back in
• Verify you're logged into the same account on web and extension

Privacy & Security

Data Storage

• Your prompts are stored in your Musebox account, not locally in the browser
• Only authentication tokens are stored locally
• Private prompts remain private and are never shared

Permissions

The extension requires these permissions:

• Storage: To save your authentication token and preferences
• Active Tab: To detect which AI platform you're using
• Host Permissions: To enable Magic Paste on supported platforms

Security

• All communication with Musebox servers is encrypted (HTTPS)
• Your prompts are never sent to third parties
• Authentication uses secure token-based auth

Updates & Feedback

Automatic Updates

The extension updates automatically through your browser's extension store. You'll always have the latest features and bug fixes without any action needed.
